New UKA Press Release...

How It Happened Here by Kevin Brownlow

The book tells the story of the making of a film and the subsequent reception that the film received and the controversy and alarm that it stirred up when it was first released. The film-makers were two teenagers (18 and 16) and they started out with no budget and a borrowed 16 mm camera. The project took 8 years to complete.

Stations of the Heart was the first collection by Eddie Gibbons and has been recently followed up by The Republic of Ted . Both are remarkable collections of poetry combining humour, wonderful observation and tragedy into an irresistable mix.

Moscow Stations is an amazing book by Venedikt Yerofeev which chronicles his life through the device of an alcohol fuelled train journey. It is hilarious and tragic by turns and is one of the great relatively undiscovered novels of recent times. See my review of it here
