Odyssey in the Ukraine

A journey that begins in the golden-domed city of Kiev and follows the great Dnepr river down to the Black sea where we explore exotic Odessa and the Crimean port of Sevastopol.

In Kiev there is a strange meeting with the monks of the Caves Monastery whose bodies have been stored for centuries on shelves below the ground. We then stop off at Zaporizhia, the home of the Cossacks where their descendents treat us to a display of horsemanship and some rather unusual porridge. In Odessa we see where the heroes of Potemkin met their end and then cross the Black Sea to meet Snow White.

The Crimea then awaits with the battlefields of the Charge of the Light Brigade, the summer palace of Tsar Nicholas and the wonderful Fountain of Tears. This is the story of a spectacular journey that is told with humour and sensitivity and opens up a whole new world for those who have never travelled beyond the old iron curtain.
